What are SKAGs?

SKAG’s are — “single keyword ad groups”.

By using a single keyword inside an ad group you can hack a high-quality score and generate way more leads!

Here is an example:

Before we separated the keyword “consolidate debts” into its own ad group it was generating leads at a high conversion rate — it was at 18% for the conversion rate but its quality score was low — the quality score was only “5”.

Our primary goal was to improve the quality score to above “8” because with increased quality score everything else will also improve simultaneously.

We were hesitant to move it at first, due to the conversion ratio being so high already, but I knew that if we could improve the quality score it would only improve the conversion ratio as well. Knowing what I know about SKAG’s, I was highly confident that we could only improve our conversion ratio and generate even more leads.

Knowing what I know about SKAG’s, I was highly confident that my quality score would improve by converting one of my top keywords — “consolidate debts” into a SKAG. And I was right!

We took the keyword “consolidate debts” and gave it — it’s own landing page keeping the URL also in line with the keyword. Here is the URL https://goldenfs.org/consolidate-debt/.

Why do we use all three different match types? Simply because we want to see what other search term variants are popular.

Notice how the description line is not specific to the keyword, but my keyword is showing in the Title and Display URL.

This is on purpose so you can create multiple ad groups fast and only worry about changing the headlines and display URLs to be keyword specific.
